Mead didn't start out working in film, though. He started at Ford Motor Company in the Advanced Styling Studio. He left there to pursue illustrating for various American corporations including U.S. Steel. His work was so well loved that his career flourished quickly and he was sought after around the globe. He didn't get noticed by wishing. This man has and continues to work and perfect his craft on a daily basis.
I am super excited about the announcements of his appearance at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta on August 28th and a new, and much deserved, documentary about him, VISUAL FUTURIST: The Art & Life of Syd Mead! You can watch the preview for the movie below. I hope to be able to see Mead at High, shake his hand and get an autographed copy of his book. I keep you posted.
